• Root canals are now mostly completed without pain in a timely fashion.  In fact, we've had patients fall asleep during root canal procedures!
• Root canal treatment is very successful and is the logical alternative to removing the tooth.  
• A tooth that has had a root canal almost always requires a crown.  A tooth that has a crown placed will eventually need a root canal treatment only 6% of the time according to research. 

The only alternative to a root canal treatment is an extraction.  Replacing this tooth with an implant and a crown is a very successful option, however, in many cases a root canal and a crown will provide many years of service.
